Pocket Door Frame Kit Selector Guide
Compare pocket door frame kit options to find the right operation, wall support and capacity for your project.
| Option | What it does | Who needs it? | Capacity / selection notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard operation | Manual sliding on ball-bearing rollers; you control the stop. | Homeowners wanting simple operation and builders specifying a straightforward kit. | Check the selected kit’s door-weight rating. |
| Soft Close only | Gently pulls the door into the closed position near the end of travel. | Bedrooms, bathrooms and other rooms where a gentle closing stop matters. | Door width and weight must suit the selected mechanism. |
| Soft Open only | Gently slows the door as it enters the pocket. | Customers wanting a gentle stop when opening the door. | Does not push the door back out of the pocket. |
| Soft Close + Soft Open | Provides a gentle stop at both ends of travel. | Customers wanting controlled opening and closing. | Choose a kit specifically offered with both features. |
| Standard rollers + EZ Closer | Manual sliding with push-to-release retrieval from the pocket. | Anyone who wants easier access to a fully recessed door. | EZ Closer is a retrieval feature; it is different from Soft Open. Check the complete kit’s rating. |
| Soft Close + EZ Closer | Combines gentle closing with push-to-release retrieval from the pocket. | Customers wanting both a gentle close and easier door retrieval. | Choose a listed combination. Premium versions support up to 330 lb per door. |
| Extra studs | Adds steel studs within the pocket frame for additional wall support. | Builders and homeowners wanting more support along the pocket wall. | Stud count varies by kit and width. Extra studs do not increase the hardware’s door-weight capacity. |
| Premium: standard 400 lb rollers | Heavy-duty manual operation without Soft Close or Soft Open. | Projects with heavier doors that do not need a soft stop. | 400 lb maximum per door. |
| Premium: standard rollers + EZ Closer | Heavy-duty manual operation with push-to-release retrieval. | Projects with heavier doors that need easier retrieval from the pocket. | 400 lb maximum per door. Adding EZ Closer does not reduce this rating. |
| Premium: Soft Close, Soft Open, or both | Heavy-duty operation with a gentle stop at one or both ends, according to the kit selected. | Projects with heavier doors that need controlled stopping. | 330 lb maximum per door, including combinations with EZ Closer. The soft mechanism sets the limit. |
Before ordering: Confirm the actual door width, height, thickness and weight; wall framing; single or double layout; and rough opening. For double doors, weight limits apply to each door. Features and sizes vary by kit.
Soft-operation minimums: Standard-line Soft Close / Soft Open requires at least 70 lb per door; Premium Soft Close / Soft Open requires at least 150 lb per door. Check the selected kit’s maximum rating. Premium standard rollers, with or without EZ Closer, retain the 400 lb maximum.
