Choose how your doors fold, where they stack, and the hardware needed for your opening. Compare two, four, six and eight individual door panels using HBP Series 1 folding hardware.
Count individual panels: two panels make one folding pair. Four panels make two pairs.
One connected bank folds toward the left or right jamb. This works well when you want the opening approached from one end or prefer one stack of doors.
Use one pivoting base pair, then add pairs as needed. More panels create a larger stack at that side.
Two separate banks fold toward opposite jambs. This creates access between the banks and divides the stacked panels between two sides.
Each bank needs its own pivoting base pair. With equal-width panels, a 2 + 4 or 2 + 6 arrangement meets off-center.
Pairs matter. Each bank in this guide contains an even number of panels. Two panels form one bank, not a 1 + 1 folding system. Six panels can split 2 + 4 or 4 + 2; a 3 + 3 layout requires a separately confirmed hardware design.
These front-view diagrams show panel counts and folding direction with the doors closed. They are layout guides, not installation drawings or depictions of the open stack. One-sided layouts can be mirrored to fold right.

Quantities below are calculated from HBP’s Base Set A and Add-on Set B ordering method. Hangers, hinges and pivot sets are included totals, not extra parts to purchase on top of the A/B sets.

*Each pivot set here means one bank’s top pivot plus bottom pivot and bracket. All layouts also need properly sized Series 1 track. Included screw packs come with the hardware sets.
Base Set A = one per folding bank.
Add-on Set B = one per additional pair beyond each bank’s first pair.
Convenient for one two-panel bank or a four-panel 2 + 2 layout. Includes track, hangers, pivots, hinges, screws and wrenches.
Published rating: up to 125 lb per individual panel.
Door thickness: 1 3/8 to 1 3/4 inches.
The 2-door kit has one hanger and one pivot set; the 4-door kit has two of each. A standard four-door kit is arranged for two banks; four panels folding together need the multi-fold configuration above.
Shop Bi-Fold Kits
Supplies the pivoting first pair at a jamb. Choose one for a one-sided layout or two for a split layout.
Track is purchased separately.
Shop Set A
Connects another two panels to an existing bank. It does not start a separate bank.
Use the selected kit’s installation instructions for hanger and alternating hinge placement.
Shop Set B
The hanger’s four wheels roll inside the overhead aluminum box track. Pivots locate the end of each bank, while the hinges allow connected panels to fold.
Multi-fold layouts extend this paired-panel arrangement using additional hangers and hinges. Match the Series 1 track and components; wheel count alone does not establish compatibility or weight capacity.
View Multi-Fold TrackCapacity for multi-fold projects: HBP identifies these sets as using Series 1 bi-fold components, but the A/B set listing does not publish a separate completed multi-fold layout rating. Have HBP confirm panel weight, size, thickness and bank length before ordering a multi-fold system. Do not assume the 250 lb sliding-door rating applies to folding doors, or multiply 125 lb by the panel count to approve the opening.

Door sizing is a separate step. Opening width divided by panel count is only a starting estimate for equal-width panels. Deduct the clearances specified by the hardware instructions before ordering or cutting doors.
The multi-fold track listing shows 48-, 60-, 72- and 96-inch system options and directs customers to order by phone. Confirm the supplied track pieces and cut length for your layout.
View Track Options Request Layout & Track HelpTwo panels suit smaller openings. Four panels split 2 + 2 provide access between two smaller stacks. Check that open doors clear appliances, shelves and nearby walls.
Six or eight panels offer more layout choices. Use a balanced 4 + 4 arrangement for a central meeting point or an uneven split to suit furniture and access needs.
All folding layouts project out from the closed-door plane as they operate, and stacked panels reduce usable clear width. Confirm both swing space and stack space; the full opening width is not the final clear passage.
Send your measurements and layout to HBP. A sketch marked “4 left + 2 right,” for example, helps identify the correct hardware and track before you purchase.
