Reasons that you may want kits with extra steel studs.
When installing a pocket door on a wall for a bathroom, and a shower is on the other side of the wall. You may want the extra stability. Usually you will attach hardboard to the studs on the bathroom side. When using tile over this, you especially need the extra stability to keep the tile from cracking. Also., you must make sure that your screws do not go past the inside of the studs, in order to keep the door from being scratched as it moves through the pocket. When using hardboard, you can also have use longer screws on the hardboard side.
In instances where you are hanging something on a wall where there is a pocket door, you may also want the extra stability of more steel studs. Hanging a shelf on the wall, or any other heavy item, will give you extra steel studs to screw into. Also, remember to not have the screws extend beyond the studs, in order to not have the pocket door scratched.
