Pocket Door Frame Kit Selector Guide
The right pocket door frame kit depends on more than the size of the door. Think about how you want the door to move, how much it weighs, and whether the pocket wall needs extra support. Then choose a kit that fits your wall framing and single or double door layout.
Choose How the Door Operates
Standard operation gives you smooth, manual sliding on ball-bearing rollers. You move the door and control where it stops.
Soft Close gently pulls the door toward the jamb as it closes, providing a controlled closing stop.
Soft Open slows the door as it slides into the pocket. It cushions the opening stop, but it does not push the door back out.
Soft Close + Soft Open cushions the door at both ends of its travel.
EZ Closer helps you retrieve a door that is fully recessed in the pocket. Push the recessed door to release it. Depending on the kit, EZ Closer can be paired with standard rollers or Soft Close.
Consider the Door’s Weight and the Pocket Wall
For heavier doors, look at the premium kits. Premium standard rollers are rated for doors up to 400 lb; the current kits in this category include an EZ Closer. Premium soft-operation kits offer either Soft Close + EZ Closer or Soft Close + Soft Open and are rated for doors up to 330 lb. Always check the rating for the exact kit you select.
If the pocket wall will support shelves, cabinets, or a tiled surface, consider a kit with extra steel studs. The studs add wall support and rigidity. They do not increase the door hardware’s weight rating.
Check These Details Before Ordering
- Door size and weight: Confirm the door’s actual width, height, thickness, and weight.
- Wall and opening: Match the kit to your wall framing, required rough opening, and single or double door layout.
- Soft-operation requirements: Check both the minimum and maximum door weight for the specific kit. A door that is too light may not activate the mechanism.
- Double doors: Apply the stated weight limit to each door, not to the pair combined.
Once you have chosen a kit, select the required size on its product page. Review the kit contents and installation instructions before ordering so you know it fits your door and opening.
