A Heavy-Duty Solution for Bypass Door Installations

Bypass doors are a practical and space-saving option for closets and other openings where swinging doors may not be ideal. A typical bypass installation uses two doors that slide past one another, allowing access to either side of the opening.

Because a bypass system generally uses fewer doors than a bifold system of the same width, each individual door is usually wider. For example, a 6-foot-wide closet opening would typically use two 36-inch-wide doors.

Planning for Door Overlap

One important consideration when installing bypass doors is the amount of overlap between the doors. The doors need to overlap slightly when closed so there is no visible gap between them.

Depending on the opening, this may require adjusting the finished opening size or selecting doors with slightly different widths. For example, a 5-foot-wide opening may use a combination of 30-inch and 32-inch doors to provide the proper coverage and overlap.

Careful measuring before installation will help ensure smooth operation and a clean finished appearance.

Track and Hardware Clearance

Important: The track and hardware require approximately 1 3/4" to 2 1/4" of clearance from the top of the door to the track mounting location.

The roller hangers are height-adjustable, allowing the doors to be fine-tuned during installation for proper alignment and smooth operation.
