1. Standard Swinging Doors

  • Operate like typical room doors, swinging left or right

  • Usually swing outward from the closet (inward only for large closets)

  • Smaller versions may use pulls with ball catches instead of full hardware


2. Pocket Doors

  • Slide into the wall to save space

  • Can be single or double doors

  • Require wall space equal to twice the door width

  • Best installed using a complete pocket door frame kit (includes studs, track, rollers, headers)

Features:

  • Roller types:

    • Standard rollers

    • Ball-bearing rollers (smoother, support more weight)

  • Typically top-hung track systems


3. Bi-fold Doors

  • Made of two connected panels that fold together

  • Sold as:

    • 2-door sets

    • 4-door sets

  • Heights: 80", 84", 96"

Operation:

  • Fold to one side (or both sides in 4-door sets)

  • Slide along a track

  • Top-hung track is most common


4. Multi-fold Doors

  • Similar to bi-fold, but with more sections (up to 6 panels)

  • Panels fold in pairs and can split directions

  • 2 panels one way, 4 the other

  • All configurations must be in pairs

Features:

  • Slightly different hardware than bi-fold

  • Roller options:

    • Standard

5. Bypass Doors

  • Doors slide past each other on parallel tracks

  • Typically use 2 or more standard doors

Operation:

  • Doors overlap slightly

  • Slide left or right to access one side at a time

Features:

    • Standard

    • Ball-bearing

  • Optional soft close / open features

  • Use flush pulls or recessed handles (to avoid interference)

  • Most systems are top-hung
