Grilling planks are pieces of wood which are used to hold foods while on the grill.

People have been using grilling planks for centuries, and they are experience in resurgence in popularity. Grilling Planks can be used for fish, meat, vegetables and more. There are several reasons to use a Grilling Plank. Grilling Planks can be used to hold delicate meats and fish which might fall apart if they were grilled directly on the Grill. It also keeps foods moist, and prevents burning. Each wood type adds its own unique flavor and scents to the finished food.

Using a grilling plank will also enhance the smoky flavor of grilling or barbecuing. Procedures to use Grilling Planks: Prepare the Plank by soaking it in a bucket or colder filled with water for One to Two hours before use. Kiln Dried Planks will soak up liquid faster which will help you get the liquids you want under your food. This adds moisture to the wood and prevents the wood from splitting or catching fire on the Grill. (Note: You can add salt, white wine, apple juice to the soaking water to accent wood aromas). After the plank is removed from the water, the side which will hold the food is oiled slightly, to prevent sticking, and then the food is placed on top, and the plank is placed over the fire. It is important to check the temperature of the food when using a grilling plank, to ensure that it is cooked all the way through.

Note: Planked food does not have to be turned during grilling. Hardwoods work very well for grilling since they can with stand high heat for long periods of time.

Alder plank is an excellent choice for salmon and fish, while an oak plank will pair well with robust meats like hamburgers.
